CHIC Project
Coalition to Strengthen the HPV Immunization Community (CHIC)
The Coalition to Strengthen the HPV Immunization Community (CHIC) project aims to shape the dialogue on science, policy and program implementation supporting cervical cancer elimination efforts by: setting up meetings and a symposia series in GAVI-eligible countries to stimulate communication between stakeholders advancing science, developing evidence-based policies and managing programs in and across countries, and creating a dedicated platform to share experiences and draw the research agenda to accelerate progress in HPV vaccine introduction, access, program optimization and sustainability. The project is a collaboration between John Hopkins University (JHU), Jhpiego, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and the University of Antwerp.
Focus of the CHIC Project:
- Foster the leadership of a robust community of practice around HPV vaccines that connects scientists, decision-makers and decision-influencers in country and global vaccine markets
- Provide and manage a platform that identifies and elevates voices of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to shape global science, policy and program dialogues on HPV vaccination
- Accelerate progress in HPV vaccine introduction, access, and program optimization in Gavi-eligible countries
An important objective of the CHIC project is the formation of a Symposium Programme Committee (SPC), a group of international experts focused on convening a community of practice through three symposia series to accelerate progress in HPV vaccine introduction, access, and program optimization in Gavi-eligible countries.
HPV Vaccine Symposia Series & Technical Meeting
The University of Antwerp, with its prior valuable experience from the organization and management of HPV Prevention and Control Board (www.hpvboard.org), will work in partnership with LSHTM’s Vaccine Confidence Project (VCP) to leverage existing involvement in global policy projects and to lead the agenda, planning and execution of the 3-part global symposia series. The University of Antwerp and the VCP will bring together a multidisciplinary Symposium Program Committee (SPC) to convene the global community of practice in a way that elevates global south voices and provides a platform to foster consensus and shared action toward common goals.
As part of the planned CHIC symposia series and to contextualize the pre- and post Covid-19 landscape for HPV vaccination, CHIC will set up an online technical meeting to invite key stakeholders from LMICs to engage and share their experiences with HPV vaccination programs.
